Facebook is About to Make its Own Smartwatch
The yet unannounced Facebook watch will be designed for communication within the social network and in company-owned services, including Instagram, WhatsApp and others, according to The Information.
The device will have features for tracking health and fitness data in conjunction with partner projects like Peloton. The Insider notes that it is not yet clear whether the social network will somehow use this data. The watch will run on Android (whether it will use Google’s Wear OS is not specified) and will be able to connect to the Internet without a smartphone connection, the sources say. According to them, sales of the device will begin in 2022.
Also, Facebook is developing a new operating system for its smartwatch, according to sources. The company has declined to comment.
